WISC-IRIIS Exploratory Workshops 9 – 14 January 2016, New Delhi, India

WISC's second set of Exploratory Workshops under the theme "Alternative Cosmologies and Knowledge Systems in International Relations: Voices from the Global South" took place in Delhi between 9-14 January 2016. The "Call for Papers" elicited interest well beyond India. Senior and junior scholars from Asia, Africa and Latin America participated.

The "Report on WISC-IRIIS Exploratory Workshops" by the head of the Organizing Team, Professor Navnita Chadha Behera details the deliberations. A special Website has been created for “The Delhi Group”. Additional "Personal Summaries and Reflections" have been provided by:

Cancún 2015 Exploratory Workshop

On 16 October 2015 WISC and the “Mexican International Studies Association” (MISA) organized a one-day workshop on “The Current State and Future of IR Studies in the Global South” in the context of the Annual MISA Conference 2015 in Cancun, Mexico. A joint “Call for Papers” was issued and eleven applications for participation were received from scholars from around the world. Six were jointly selected.

The Workshop generated several ideas for how to pursue additional projects for intensifying intellectual collaboration between IR scholars in the “Global South” and the “Global North”. Besides the official report two participants, Jessica De Alba-Ulloa and Ralf Leiteritz, volunteered to share their “personal summaries” of the workshop.

WISC Workshops

In 2015 WISC decided to issue a “Call for Hosts” for a first round of “Exploratory Workshops” in the Global South. The aim of this activity of WISC is to complement WISC’s activities with regard to the major global conferences held every three years.

Workshops took place in Cancún in October 2015 and in Delhi in January 2016. Five “Exploratory Research Workshops” will be sponsored in the context of WISC’s 5th Global International Studies Conference on 30 March 2017 at National Taiwan University (NTU), Taipei (Taiwan).

In 2017 and 2018 two fully funded International Workshops for Early Career Researchers on the theme “World Order and Peace. International Politics in the 21st Century in a Global Perspective” will be organized in the Global South. A “Call for Applications” has been issued. The deadline is March 13th 2017. Details on the application process are available here. Additional “Calls” are planned for the future.
